5 Photography Tips for Beautiful Pictures

Have you ever found yourself staring at a beautiful sight and taking a picture but the picture doesn't come out how you expected. There is a lot at play that impacts the quality of the picture you take and to take a high quality photo it's important to consider all of these factors. I have captured some helpful tips to think about the next time you want to take a high quality photo.

Lighting is everything

Lighting is so important when taking a picture. Too much light and  you risk your photo being over exposed and harsh. Too little light and you can come away with a dark grainy image. So where's the balance? The first thing to think about is what type of light source are you using. I generally prefer natural lighting as it doesn't have the same harshness as artificial lighting. Artificial lights can also sometimes add a blue or orange hue to your photo which you don't want

Photo Composition

Have the battle with taking a photo is ensuring the scene you are taking a photo of is aesthetically pleasing. Too many props can look cluttered and too little can make the photo look bare. The first thing you need to think about when it comes to composition is what style you are going for. You then organise the photo around that style.

Learn Which Settings Matter

Whether you are using DSLR or an iphone, there will be several settings that you can tinker with that will affect the outcome of your photo. All the settings can sometimes be overwhelming, but if I were to boil a few key one they would be (1) aperture and (2) exposure.

Edit your photos but avoid filters

Photo editing can be great for helping your photos pop just that little bit more. The quick way to edit your photos is to use pre defined filters, and while that may be tempting, you must stay away from them if you want high quality images. Filters use a one size fits all approach and changes are it won't fit your photo perfectly. Invest in good photo editing software like Adobe Lightroom and produce custom edits for your photos.

Use a Tripod

If you can, use a tripod! The help ensure you have stability when taking the photo and help you avoid shaky shots. You can also get overhead tripods which can get you beautiful arial shots. Overhead tripods are also really great if you're shooting videos overhead.
